ŚWIĘTE KOBIETY ŚREDNIOWIECZA — DZIEWICE, MATKI I NIERZĄDNICE

Średniowieczne ołtarze pełne były wizerunków świętych kobiet: dziewic, męczennic, zakonnic, ale też matek, żon, wdów, czy nawet nierządnic. Czasami bywały one podpisane, ale najczęściej rozpoznajemy je po strojach i atrybutach, a owe atrybuty potrafiły być zaskakujące! Smok, myszy, włosy na całym ciele, piersi na talerzu… to wszystko wynikało z legend, w które obudowano życiorysy tych świętych. Z żywotów także wynikała „specjalizacja” poszczególnych niewiast — warto było wiedzieć, do kogo najlepiej modlić się w przypadku chorób oczu, która święta ochroni nas przed burzą, albo która jest patronką kobiet rodzących.
